Location
Ballater is situated on the A93 Aberdeen to Braemar road 40 miles east of Aberdeen. On entering Ballater turn right into Bridge Street, continue past the Village Green where Viewfield Road is located on the left-hand side.
Ballater is only a few minutes away from Balmoral Castle, private summer residence of the Royal Family, a focus of Royal association that goes back more than a century. They came to the site of the future home at Balmoral for the lst time in 1848. It was love at first site, Queen Victoria recording in her diary "All seemed to breathe freedom and peace and to make one forget the world and its sad turmoil"
Ballater is a small town in the heart of Royal Deeside lying along the banks of the River Dee below the immense backdrop of the Coyles of Muick and Lochnagar. Surrounded by tree-covered hills and heather clad mountain glens, it is an area of outstanding beauty. With its quiet roads and magnificent scenery Ballater is a popular holiday area and an ideal centre for touring within easy distance of Aberdeen, Stonehaven, Inverness and Perth.
In Ballater itself there is golf, putting, bowling and tennis and mountain bike hire. Those seeking more active pursuits will not be disappointed. As well as walking and climbing in the nearby mountains there are facilities for gliding, pony trekking, skiing and water skiing nearby.
In season fishing, shooting and stalking can be arranged locally. There is also a trout fish farm within 2 miles open all year round and all equipment can be hired in Ballater.
Golf :- Scotland is the home of golf Ballater being no exception with its own fine course and within 22 miles of Ballater you will find 8 of the finest and demanding courses Scotland has to offer.
For those wishing to become familiar with the authentic taste of The Highlands a visit to the Lochnagar Distillery, set in the backdrop of Balmoral Castle, should not be missed. A variety of whiskies can be sampled in other distilleries on The World famous Whisky Trail.
Ballater has a wide variety of shops, restaurant's and hotels offering friendly unhurried service.
The abundance of Royal warrants proudly displayed above a wide variety of shops provides true testimony to the excellent quality of their produce and commitment to quality service
Eating and drinking in Ballater is a delight with something for everyone and every budget. The very best of local produce is presented along with continental and Eastern Cooking. From the plain and simple to the gourmet's delight all tastes are catered for with many award-winning establishments to choose from.
